We’re replacing the decking (deck boards) in this next video on rebuilding our deck. This is the second video in the How to Rebuild Your Deck Series. Part 1 was correcting the foundation and stabilizing the structure.
Our deck boards were in desperate need of being replaced. The old boards were covered in a thick deck resurfacing paint. At first, we thought we would be able to scrape off the paint but quickly realized it was a ton of work. We also discovered why the homeowners chose to use thick resurfacing paint… the boards were in bad shape.
In this video we show:
✓ How to replace the old deck boards with 2×6 pressure treated wood
✓ A trick to find the old screws and remove them fast
✓ How to make sure the boards are straight
✓ How to screw the boards down flush
✓ How to cut the boards to fit around an object (like a post)
